How to: Rip songs from your iPod using a Mac (For Free!)
Okay, so you have your entire music collection on your iPod right? That’s all well and good…but sometimes we need to get that music back off of our iPod, and iTunes doesn’t offer an easy solution for that. If your computer hard drive crashes, or if you simply want to make a backup of your iPod, the ability to rip files from your iPod is a must. There are plenty of paid solutions out there, but why pay for what you can easily have for free, right?
The software you need to check out is Expod (Download Via Mac Update).

Download and install the software. After that it’s pretty simple! Just plug in your iPod. Then, if iTunes opens, close iTunes. After that, open Expod and it should detect your iPod! Once that happens…it’s just as simple as choosing the songs you want to Extract (command + A in the list to select everything) and then click the Extract button! That’s it! It will take a few minutes…depending on how much music you’re extracting. As a precaution…if you plan on wiping your iPod and starting clean, I would take a listen to a few of the tracks, and compare what it ripped from your iPod to what’s on your iPod. That way you can know for sure that everything went swell.
